Carmen Tang felt empowered when she won the 2017 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Service for Professional Services Staff, valuing that as a self-proclaimed quiet achiever, the award process ensured her hard work didn’t go unnoticed.

Part of the administration team in the School of Civil, Mining & Environmental Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering & Information Sciences, Carmen was praised for her efficiency and effectiveness within a busy and demanding environment and for her success in implementing a number of key process improvements within the School. Carmen also undertook a number of additional responsibilities to support the School’s Distinguished Professor and relevant research centres.

“As I am a quiet achiever, this award not only brings me happiness, it is a testimony that hard work will not go unnoticed. The award is truly empowering and has been an experience of a lifetime for me,” Carmen said.

“I wish more colleagues, like me, who are quiet achievers in supportive roles in their offices are given recognition. I will continue to work tirelessly with academic and professional services staff who nominated me for the award. Their recognition is the best acknowledgement of my service.”
