UOW is expecting a large number of international students will remain onshore during the 2020/2021 summer period due to ongoing travel restrictions. The impact of the pandemic will likely prevent many students from returning home, or their family and friends travelling to Australia to visit. Many domestic students may also be choosing to stay close to campus for a variety of reasons. A number of Faculties and Units across UOW have worked together to develop a range of social and academic engagement opportunities for students to take part in over the summer period.
The UOW Over Summer webpage outlines the range of activities available, and intends to create a sense of interest and engagement in these opportunities, for the purpose of helping students stay connected.
- Academic opportunities such as virtual study abroad and exchange opportunities, summer session and UOWx online seminars
- A list of local and regional social activities, events and attractions that are open for participation by the broader community in the December/January period
- Social activities run by Clubs and Societies and Woolyungah Indigenous Centre
- We have also included a link to information about returning to campus in 2021, and about student support and welfare services available to UOW students
UOW Over Summer will be promoted to current international students, as well as more broadly to all students via UOW current student channels over the next few months.
It would be greatly appreciated if staff could please share this information and direct students to this website and resources, when speaking to them.
