Fiona Rankin, Director of Information Management and Technology Services (IMTS), has been announced as a finalist in the Emerging Technologies category of the 2020 IT News Benchmark Awards.
Last year Fiona was named among Australia’s top 25 Chief Information Officers (CIOs) at the CIO Magazine CIO50 Awards and this nomination again highlights the infrastructure and networking solutions provided by IMTS for Molecular Horizons, UOW’s molecular life sciences research facility. Under Fiona’s leadership the IMTS team applied data-mining and machine-learning across massive datasets to deliver health analytics and molecular visualisation for the state-of-the-art facility.
Molecular Horizons houses two of Australia’s most powerful electron microscopes, the Talos Arctica and Titan Krios Cryogenic Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM), microscopes requiring bespoke technology to ensure they are isolated from all forms of vibration and magnetism. Researchers and staff moved into their new space last week, with the building due to be officially later in the year.
Winners of the 2020 IT News Benchmark Awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney on 5 March.
