As we welcome a new cohort of students, many from different regions and backgrounds, I’d like to remind all staff of the importance of ensuring we provide a working and learning environment that allows everyone to reach their potential.
Please make sure you are familiar with UOW’s values in our Strategic Plan. Our Code of Conduct also promotes mutual respect and equity and social justice. Everyone at UOW has the right to work or study in an environment that is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.
If you have not already completed Equal Opportunity (EO) Online you should do so as soon as possible to become better informed about your responsibilities and UOW’s commitment to gender equality and cultural diversity. There is an additional module for supervisors, as they have additional accountabilities. Staff are to complete these modules on a biannual cycle to keep current with emerging changes. Access EO Online here.
Cases of discrimination, bullying and harassment at UOW are rare. This is not, however, a reason to become complacent about such serious issues. I would like to remind you that the University will not tolerate such behaviours. It is the responsibility of all staff members to take action to prevent any form of discrimination, bullying and harassment and to treat each other respectfully.
Staff experiencing personal difficulty are encouraged to use UOW’s free and confidential counselling services through the Employee Assistance Program, available to all UOW employees and their immediate families.
UOW has a range of policies and procedures that promote positive working relationships free from unlawful discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, age and disability. You can find these policies here.
I wish everyone a harmonious and prosperous autumn session.
