Find out more about previous Award recipients, the Pathways team at ANCORS, who received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement.
In 2019, the Pathways Team at ANCORS was awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement for their contributions of the highest quality to the welfare of coastal communities and practice of fisheries management in Vanuatu and Kiribati.
The team developed strong, enduring UOW partnerships with local civil society groups and national and regional organizations across the Pacific. The high quality research outputs have translated into substantial policy changes in both countries.
Professor Neil Andrews said the team were very happy to receive the award, stating “We were pleased to be recognized – there are many research groups in the University working at the interface between fundamental research and societal impacts, so to be nominated meant we were recognized as doing something good on that research frontier.”
“Recognition of the partnerships we enjoy with national agencies and rural communities validates a lot of hard work from a lot of people. We were fortunate to represent those people in receiving the award.”
