The National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) announces the establishment of its new Centre for Health and Social Analytics (CHSA). The aim of CHSA is to significantly increase the University’s capacity, capabilities, focus and performance in health, medical and social research involving the acquisition, management, analysis, dissemination and interpretation of large and complex data sets.
The appointment of Prof Alberto Nettel-Aguirre as the University of Wollongong’s foundation Professor of Biostatistics and Director of CHSA cements the launch of our new centre. Prof Nettel-Aguirre joins NIASRA, from Canada, after 15 years working in collaborative research in health focusing on the correct application of Biostatistics and Data Science methods, namely in paediatrics and injury prevention as well as being part of Global Health projects.
CHSA will contribute to the University’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the Data and Decision Science Framework by developing its methodological research in areas of competitive advantage; establishing and focusing on collaborative research projects within UOW and externally and pursuing opportunities for education, training and capacity building in health and social analytics.
