True academic success comes down to breakthrough research, and breakthrough research comes down to funding. With research grants increasingly challenging to win, commercial research is a compelling alternative.

A great example of this is a new $4 million UOW led university-industry partnership to reduce the cost of Embedded Rail Track and increase safety and use of rail infrastructure through the Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) grants scheme, a first with UOW as the lead research organisation.

Congratulations to Zahra Shahbazian from the Innovation and Commercial Research Unit (ICRU) who worked tirelessly with the research teams and industry partners to align objectives and implement a new close collaborative engagement structure to set this project up for success.

Congratulations to Phil Commins and the FIF team for their continued drive to make an impact with their research by prioritising real-world challenges.
