UOW has changed the dates of its Spring Session recess to align with the NSW school holidays to benefit both current and future students while supporting the smooth operation of the institution.
Following consultation with Faculty, Units and Divisions, UOW will be making a change to spring session dates. Our Spring Session’s mid-session recess will commence on Saturday 29 September and conclude on Sunday 7 October (originally published dates were Saturday 22 September to Sunday 30 September).
Week 10 of Spring Session will now be scheduled from Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 September (originally published dates were Saturday 29 September to Sunday 7 October).
The change in timing of our recess week aligns with the NSW school holidays. This change will benefit both current and future students while supporting the smooth operation of the institution.
As well as overcoming this year’s rare misalignment with school holidays, the date change will avoid academic and professional staff having to divide their attention between meeting the needs of current students and thoroughly interviewing and assessing prospective students, which normally occurs during the Spring school holidays and university mid-session recess.
The change will also assist staff members who need to take annual leave during school holidays to care for school-aged children while minimising the impact their absence will have on students and the operations of the institution.
Information about these changes is being distributed to staff and students today.
During the consultation on the proposed changes there were some specific challenges highlighted. We understand that these can be managed by local and case by case exceptions.
