The new Moodle Accessibility plugin ‘Blackboard Ally’ will be made available in all Moodle sites from 30 September 2019.

Accessibility is the practice of making your site and resources usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability. This accessibility plugin provides contextual guidance and tips to improve the accessibility of resource files in your Moodle site, and automatically creates alternative versions of selected content, enabling students to choose to download the file formats that best suits their needs.

Following the activation of the plugin, an accessibility score gauge and download icons will appear next to certain files that have been uploaded into your Moodle site. The download icon enables users to download resources in alternate formats, including HTML, ePub, electronic Braille, and audio formats.

The accessibility score gauge is not visible to students. It is provided as an information guide for staff only and serves to provide a measure of the accessibility of a file, and tips for improving the accessibility of that file. The download options will be available to students, enabling them to download alternate file formats of uploaded files.

More information is available through the Blackboard Ally resource page on the UOW Intranet, as well as a Knowledge Base article via the My Services Portal.
