Professor Alex Frino, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Strategy), recently hosted an industry engagement event for UOW’s first cohort of Global Degree students. The Global Leaders Development Program was launched by His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, in 2017, and has expanded this year to include three distinct degrees in Commerce, Computer Science and Commerce/Laws.  These degrees are tailored to high-achieving, high-leadership potential students.

In 2018, 14 students commenced in the program, with all attending the industry event held at UOW’s Sydney Business School campus. Guest speaker, Amelia Kondilios of Price Waterhouse Coopers Australia, offered a first-hand perspective of exactly what is it like after university working in the finance industry, both in Australia and overseas.

Students in the program will benefit from guest speakers and leadership sessions like this throughout their degree. As part of the Global Leaders Development Program students will also undertake 3 internships with top-rated global firms. Current and prospective industry partners also attended the event representing Cardno, Westpac, The Macquarie Group, Telstra, IMB, the Star Entertainment Group, Illawarra Credit Union, Device Technologies, Visionary Investment Group, Commonwealth Bank Australia, Capital Land Group, Accor Hotels, HLB Mann Judd and Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Current students in the program are due to commence their first internship in September. Following completion of their first year, students are set to commence their year of study abroad at UOW’s overseas locations in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.
