Some recent changes to the Copyright Act affect the university sector. On the whole, these were positive for universities.

One change relates to copying for examinations:

  • Coordinators, lecturers and tutors can now copy any material – ‘anything in which copyright subsists’ – for an exam (previously restricted to a narrowly-defined set of material types).
  • Copying for online exams is now included (previously face-to-face exams only).
  • ‘Examinations’ include any exercises that contribute to a final mark (this is not new, but worth noting).
