UOW alumna Kaila Matthews, Market Editor at Vogue explains how she landed her dream job and gives advice on how to land yours too.
Which university did you attend, and what did you study?
“The University of Wollongong, Bachelor of Media and Communications.”
What is your role at Vogue now, and how did you get there?
“Market Editor. I started as an intern while studying. I went from Yen magazine as their fashion assistant to market editor as well as assisting stylists on a freelance basis both editorially and commercially. When Yen sadly closed, I worked at Harpers Bazaar briefly before accepting the role at Vogue.”
What work experience, if any, did you do in order to arrive at your job at Vogue?
“Interning at publications and assisting stylists. Hands-on experience is invaluable in this job.”
What is one piece of advice you’d give to those interested in pursuing a career like yours?
“Make sure you are getting it for the right reasons. You really have to love it and be willing to put in the work.”
