The UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program has kicked-off on campus this week, with the first intake participants commencing their training.
The Program is a unique opportunity for students to study a qualification of their choice at UOW’s Wollongong campus, while also developing their football skills with training provided by fully qualified coaches from English Premier League (EPL) club Tottenham Hotspur.
Coaches Matheus Scapin and Robert Gold arrived in Australia from the UK to deliver an orientation week last week, before putting students through their paces on the field this week.
Matheus says students will be exposed to high-level coaching methods.
“We are going to bring a unique style of coaching to Australia. We have a holistic approach with every player including their technical, tactical, physical, social and psychological characteristics.
We will encourage them to push themselves, motivate them to take risks and be brave on and off the ball. We will ensure this program is at the highest standard possible,” he says.
Students participated in a welcome event, team building, and mindset workshops before commencing both group and individual training and goal setting.
Rob says the individual approach will help students achieve their best both in football and academically.
“All students will be participating in high-quality coaching sessions tailored to their individual needs and requirements. Our goal is to create a positive learning environment which gives the students the best opportunity to take risks, be brave, and achieve their maximal potential,” says Rob.
Applications for the 2021 intake will open on 21 March 2020.
