EmerCALD, one of last year’s UOW Community Engagement Grant Scheme projects, has set a precedent for a cost-effective and sustainable approach to delivering emergency messages in multiple languages across Australia and beyond.

Working in partnership with the NSW State Emergency Services (SES) and the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra (MCCI), this project has helped to unravel the challenges and the most suitable techniques for delivering emergency messages and warnings in languages that are best understood by CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) communities.

Several messages from the NSW SES have now been translated, and validated as relevant for driving behavioural change and risk awareness amongst target CALD groups.

If you believe you have a community project which can help address key challenges in our communities with measurable outcomes, apply for CEGS today. Applications close 12 August, 2020.
